The academic staff are organised into research groups which reflect their specific areas of research activity within the department:
The research facilities and training offered by the Department have been enhanced by the establishment of several inter-disciplinary research centres within the University.
Civil and Structural Engineering has received an outstanding result in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has independently assessed research carried out by staff in every university department in the country. The quality of our research outputs, the research environment, research income, professional esteem, and PhD students are all rated and compared with our peers. The outcomes show that 100% of our research is 'recognised internationally' with 85% as being 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'.
