Mohsin Shahzad
Mohsin graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2009 with an MSc Avionic Systems Engineering.
I am a sponsored student from Government of Pakistan and have completed my MSc in Avionic Systems Engineering from department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The University of Sheffield is one of the best ranked universities in UK, specially department of electronic and electircal engineering has 5-star rating. These facts about university in general and department in specific made me to think about taking admission and proceed my career here.
Although university ranking is one of the most important point to think over for higher education but there are other issues too. While searching for livings and other life activities in UK, one can find city of Sheffield as one of the greenest cities in UK. Beautiful visitors´ locations on countryside like peak district, ski village and other attractions like meadowhall, sheffield arena, and dawn valley stadium are also the most important and fascinating attractions here in Sheffield. Besides these, cost of living and vastly spreaded Pakistani community are the most attracting features in this city for students. Due to pre-settled Pakistani community, its not too difficult to settle in this city. Any other city in UK does not offer such benefits to Pakistani students therefore, "city of Sheffield" was also an important point of inspiration for me to take admission here.
It is very much obvious from university ranking that standard of education and quality of services are upto the mark. During my MSc, I found most of the lecturers helpful and satisfactory. To provide fully flexible and productive environment for learning, library and IT center (Information Commons) remains open round the clock so that students have no restrictive timing limits to work. One can go at any time, in the morning, noon, evening or even at night to work in Information Commons where there are many many fully equiped PCs available. Silent and group study spaces in Information Commons are also helpful in learning. Along with these, the student support services at university are also very much helpful to reduce the problems of students during early days.
From my experience of a year here at sheffield, I can confidently say that the Pakistani community here is very strong, both at student level and at family level. A lot of pakistani students are linked together via yahoogroup named "shefpak" link for which is shefpak@yahoogroups.com. I strongly recommend new student to join this group and send there queries here so that anyone can help them according to there experiences. Pakistani families, which have been settled here since long, are also an attrating quality of Sheffield. Pakistani shops are frequently available so one can easily buy traditional Pakistani foods and other means of general life.
Now that I have completed my degree, I must say that I am really satisfied with the degree I have taken here. My decision to come here has proved good for me to enrich my experiences, both personally and professionally, which will definitely play an important role in future.
